Students will create three-dimensional projects and learn about the many approaches to the art of sculpture, including assemblage, Plaster of Paris, carving, casting, modeling, nature sculpture, soft sculpture, and beyond! This class will cover several approaches to working in three dimensions, such as addition (combining different materials to create a form such as as assemblage, or collage of 3D materials), subtraction (removing material from a mass to create the form from an outside-In perspective), substitution (using a mold to shape materials), and manipulation (using malleable materials in ways that can be both additive and subtractive).
