 In this course students will learn to make paintings from observation and imagination while learning the importance of color theory and mark making. Students will make compelling still life paintings, self portraits and paintings from imagination in this fundamentals course. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

This class provides students with important knowledge needed for excel level courses like Summer Art Institute courses, Portfolio Development, and Anatomy + Human Figure in the Fall.

Abby Lessick is a freelance artist and illustrator living in Poughkeepsie, NY. She received her BFA in drawing and painting from SUNY New Paltz and has been running her art business for the last five years. Her artwork focuses primarily on the intricacies of nature, on finding beauty in tiny elements like mushrooms, flowers, and moss. In her free time she loves reading, writing, and being outdoors.
