Michelle Tommasi

Director, Ulster Arts Camp

Michelle is a multidisciplinary artist, educator and community organizer excited to be joining The Art Effect as the Director of the Ulster Art Camp. Michelle has taught art in the New York City, New Paltz and Kingston School Districts, The French American School of New York, an international bilingual school and is currently the Lower School Art teacher at The Poughkeepsie Day School. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Sculpture from The School of Visual Arts in New York City, and went on to work as a creative project manager in the advertising industry for 15 years. Since moving to the Hudson Valley over 20 years ago, she has initiated many community based art projects, including curating art exhibits, co-founding a dance collective, and working on collaborative performative/theater/event productions. Michelle is also an advanced Swing Dancer and has studied West African Dance for over 10 years. Michelle lives in New Paltz and when not teaching she can be found studying nature and native indigenous philosophy, at the dog park with her Mexican Hairless Chi-Weenie mix rescue Frankie, or driving around her teenage son.
