Join Historian Shannon Butler for a close look at the life and work of Poughkeepsie-born artist Thomas Barrett Jr. (1902-1947). The Poughkeepsie Public Library District recently received the entire collection of artworks, personal papers, and photographs of the Barrett Art Center after its merger with The Art Effect.

These documents will shed light on the mind of an artist who was forever attached to his city and longed to advance its place in the arts world. This lecture will coincide with a month-long exhibition showcasing Barrett’s works which were heavily influenced by both the City of Poughkeepsie and the events of the early 20th century. Learn more about the merger and transfer of Barrett collection from The Art Effect, here.
