The Art Effect officially launched The Trolley Barn Gallery and first youth-led juried exhibition
On February 26, 2021 The Art Effect officially launched The Trolley Barn Gallery and our first youth-led juried exhibition Home Sick with a ribbon cutting and opening reception attended by The Dutchess County Chamber of Commerce, State Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson, Mayor Rob Rolison, Melaine Rottkamp from Dutchess County Tourism, Christie Bonomo-Gose from Dutchess County planning, as well as board members, staff, Poughkeepsie youth and many artists and community members.
We are so excited to be re-activating the iconic Trolley Barn through an innovative approach to youth empowerment through the arts. Come take another look at Home Sick, on display until April 1, 2021! Gallery Hours: Wed – Fri 12-3pm, Sat 12-4pm.
By establishing connections with curators and arts professionals, such as Mary-Kay Lombino, Deputy Director and Curator at The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College, and Joanna Frang, Executive Director at The Barrett Art Center, The Art Effect will continue to bring transformative exhibitions of high-caliber artwork from around the world to Poughkeepsie.
The mission of The Art Effect at the Trolley Barn is to train youth as leaders who catalyze the community through the arts and re-energize downtown Poughkeepsie. The Art Effect’s permanent presence at the Trolley Barn will bring together youth and established art professionals to present impactful exhibitions that engage the wider community and acquaint youth with curatorial and exhibition practices.
We invite you to visit our current and upcoming exhibitions page on our website as we continue to present additional youth-led exhibitions in addition to other exhibitions featuring artwork created by youth at the Trolley Barn throughout 2021 including our next event, Reel Expressions International Teen Film and Photography Festival with an exhibition from April 9 – May 13 at The Trolley Barn.
The Art Effect’s presence at The Trolley Barn is truly designed to strengthen our community and showcase the positive impacts of the arts and arts education.
We hope to see you again at The Trolley Barn real soon!
