Exploring Colors

Take your students' love for art and turn it into colorful masterpieces in the exploratory art class.In this 6 week course students will learn the importance of color and how to use it to express emotions, ideas, and stories. Students will make 3-4, small and large scale, drawings, paintings and collaborative works from imagination and observation.

Exploring Materials

Students will learn to make 2D and 3D artworks with clay, paint, and drawing materials! This is the perfect course for students who love to experiment with materials! Get your hands dirty and gain confidence in your creative abilities!

Digital Illustration & Animation

Students will learn to make original characters and create a comic and animation that tells a story. In this class students will learn to use creative programs such as Procreate and Adobe Fresco. This is a great class for students who want to go a step beyond to bring their characters to life. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

 

This class prepares students for excel level digital courses that take place in the summer and fall.

 

Realistic Drawing & Painting

Students will learn to use colored pencils, charcoal, acrylic paint and more to make unique and original artworks! Over the course of 8 weeks students will work from observation and imagination to make portraits, landscapes, still lifes and more! Learn important concepts like color theory, value, key/tone, and composition. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

Mixed-Media Materials

For 8 weeks, students will learn how to manipulate 3D materials into unique and exciting sculptures. Learn how to make your own fabric art, creatures out of clay, how to create sculpture from found materials and more! Students will take their 2D ideas and make 3-4 unique 3D art pieces. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

 

Photo Exploration

In this 8 week course students will learn how to successfully use a digital camera, compose interesting photos, and edit their own work effectively. This is a great course for students who need to be introduced to the key concepts of photography and/or learn how to improve their introductory skills! Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

Digital Art & Illustration

Create original characters, the worlds they live in and concept art that is portfolio ready in this 8 week class! Students will learn to take their ideas from sketch, to concept, to final piece. Learn what makes an interesting and original digital artwork and how to take those concepts into programs like Adobe Photoshop and Procreate. Students will walk away with 4-5 developed portfolio ready digital concepts that can be shown to colleges or prospective employers! Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

Portfolio Development II

Boost your portfolio in this 8 week drawing and painting class. Learn to gather and use reference images, create unique and engaging contemporary artworks, and hone crucial skills and techniques. Students will walk away with 5-6 portfolio ready pieces that `will be sure to impress future employers and college representatives! Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

 

This is not an introductory course and an understanding of key concepts is required. This class will prepare students for advanced classes such as Senior Project, live model courses and college applications. 

 

 

Drawing and Painting Human Figure

Students will learn how to draw and paint the human form using sight measuring, anatomical proportions, value, contour and color! This eight week course will start with the skeletal break down, gesture drawings and short figure poses and end with extended poses. Students will learn the techniques that will help them curate their own dynamic figure compositions and portfolio. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

 

This class will prepare students for advanced classes such as (insert Representation class here) Senior Project, live model courses and college applications. 

 

Portfolio Development I

This 8 week class is great for students who want to check all the college readiness boxes! Develop a unique, dynamic portfolio while expanding on your fundamental drawing and painting skills. Primarily working from observation, you will learn to balance life drawing with imaginative and photo based references. Students will create still life drawings and paintings, self portraits, live model portraits and original works of art. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

 

Class on October 4th will take place at Hudson Valley Portfolio Day!

 

This class will prepare students for advanced classes such as Portfolio Development II, Senior Project, live model courses and college applications.
