Adventures in Materials

 Learn and play with clay, collage, painting and drawing materials! In this 6 week course, students will gain the confidence to try and make original works of art with new and interesting materials. Students will walk away with 3-4 playful 2D and 3D art projects and introductory knowledge of color theory, mark making and a wide range of materials.

Adventures in Painting

Take your student's love for painting to the next level in this introductory painting class! Students will learn to use colors and mark making in watercolor and acrylic paint to make original works of art! This 6 week class will begin with learning to paint objects from life and end with students having the confidence to make larger works from imagination.

Exploring Colors

Take your students' love for art and turn it into colorful masterpieces in the exploratory art class.In this 6 week course students will learn the importance of color and how to use it to express emotions, ideas, and stories. Students will make 3-4, small and large scale, drawings, paintings and collaborative works from imagination and observation.

Exploring Materials

Students will learn to make 2D and 3D artworks with clay, paint, and drawing materials! This is the perfect course for students who love to experiment with materials! Get your hands dirty and gain confidence in your creative abilities!

Digital Illustration & Animation

Students will learn to make original characters and create a comic and animation that tells a story. In this class students will learn to use creative programs such as Procreate and Adobe Fresco. This is a great class for students who want to go a step beyond to bring their characters to life. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

 

This class prepares students for excel level digital courses that take place in the summer and fall.

 

Realistic Drawing & Painting

Students will learn to use colored pencils, charcoal, acrylic paint and more to make unique and original artworks! Over the course of 8 weeks students will work from observation and imagination to make portraits, landscapes, still lifes and more! Learn important concepts like color theory, value, key/tone, and composition. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

Mixed-Media Materials

For 8 weeks, students will learn how to manipulate 3D materials into unique and exciting sculptures. Learn how to make your own fabric art, creatures out of clay, how to create sculpture from found materials and more! Students will take their 2D ideas and make 3-4 unique 3D art pieces. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

 

Photo Exploration

In this 8 week course students will learn how to successfully use a digital camera, compose interesting photos, and edit their own work effectively. This is a great course for students who need to be introduced to the key concepts of photography and/or learn how to improve their introductory skills! Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

Poughkeepsie – Week 4 – Dutchess Arts Camp

Creativity thrives as campers explore their artistic abilities, games, and play at our exciting new location, Oakwood Friends School! Enjoy beautiful new outdoor spaces, ceramic kilns, art studios, and other creative spaces!

Experienced and friendly counselors and teaching artists support fun, hands-on art-making with various mediums including painting, sculpture, ceramics, collage, animation, and performance based on engaging weekly camp themes. The pieces created at camp will portray your child's individuality while connecting to each camper’s interests. 

A final showcase each Friday will display all of the camper’s artwork and show off their learned performances to friends and family. Daily schedules include opening and closing circles, structured art instruction, snacks, lunch, and outside play.

Early drop-off available for an additional $25/day (no earlier than 8:15 am)

Late pick-up available for an additional $25/day (no later than 5:15 pm)
