Art Inspirations: Session 2

Young artists will use a variety of drawing, painting, and sculpting mediums to create artwork that represents their passions, emotions, and experiences inspired by artists & artwork they see while visiting the Samuel Dorsky Museum and sculptures on the SUNY New Paltz campus.

Exploring Drawing

Break out of beginner basics in this drawing-focused class. Young artists will learn techniques for drawing any object out of basic shapes and get practice in one point, two point, and three point perspective, as well as how to capture lights and shadows. Young artists will work from reference material as well as draw from observation and work with charcoal, pastels, colored pencils and inks.

Exploring Painting

Break out of beginner basics in this painting-focused class! Young artists will learn techniques for creating dynamic paintings, including basic color mixing and application, as well as capturing naturalistic proportions. Young artists will work from reference material as well as draw from observation and work with watercolors, acrylics, tempera and mixed media.

No class on Saturday 4/8 for Easter Weekend.

Exploring Stop-Motion Animation

Learn the art of stop-motion animation! Using 2D and 3D materials, young artists will tackle pacing, movement, walk cycles and storytelling through working on individual animated shorts over the course of four weeks.

Exploring Digital Animation

Learn the art of hand-drawn digital animation! Using tools like Procreate and Looom, young artists will learn all about the principles of animation like squash and stretch, keyframes, tweening, and visual storytelling to create visually compelling animated shorts.

Focus on designing original characters, stories, and artistic visions while learning techniques in colored pencils, pastels, ink, acrylics, and watercolors. Projects vary from color exploration and character creation to developing narratives.

Exploring Puppetry

Your young artist will learn how to design and hand-build different types of puppets using various sculptural mixed media materials. Watch the puppets come to life as students learn how to control their character’s voices, body language and movement through performance.

This class will focus on instilling a love for digital art making and the moving image through personal expression, basic compositional principles, editing, and digital filmmaking. Students will get an introduction to basic storytelling techniques, digital/visual mediums, and animation through digital painting, .gifs, and stop-motion techniques.
