Intermediate Portfolio Development Session 2

Refine your observation and rendering skills to create a sophisticated fine art portfolio! You will learn a variety of different mediums and hear from working artists who are experts in each field. You will begin by working from observation using the tools of drawing and painting, and then move onto mixed media, sculpture, photography, and experimental works. Your focus will be on using new and familiar tools to produce innovative work that solidifies your personal vision and vice. This class will prepare you for the rigors of Advanced Portfolio Development.

Spark Studio- Screenwriting Intensive

Learn the fundamentals of writing a screenplay! In this two-week intensive, where you will use industry standard software to format a screenplay, explore multiple genres, and write compelling stories for television and film.
Stipend = $50 per youth
 

MADLab Intensive: Digital Photography – Reel Exposure Intensive

Get into the action of teen storytelling through photos, videos, and response art! Learn how to react to, recreate, and respond to works of art from teenagers across the country by capturing your own photos and producing your own videos! 

Stipend = $50 per youth
 

Trolley Barn Squad – Up Close and Personal Jurying Intensive

Want to call the shots on the next big arts exhibition in Poughkeepsie? Ever wonder how galleries or museums choose what's on the walls? What even IS a curator? Learn to generate a theme, jury a national call for entries, and hang the work as a part of the Trolley Barn Gallery Squad!

The Trolley Barn Gallery Squad is the team of youth who will be leading the decision-making around Trolley Barn Gallery exhibitions for the rest of 2021. Successful applicants will be able to commit to attending all sessions (which adds up to about 3 days per month) and will receive a $500 stipend at the end of the year, as well as recognition for their leadership. 

Spark Studio-Vassar Documentary Intensive

Spark Studios students will carry out pre-production, production, and post production on a documentary video about the trials and triumphs of transitioning from high school to college.

Stipend = $100 per youth

Copy of Foundations in Digital Art and Animation

Are you an aspiring cartoonist, illustrator, or animator? Learn to create compelling and well-composed digital images, and then learn how to animate them using digital tools! Build a foundation towards your future with high-tech digital tools by learning the fundamentals of Procreate and the Adobe Suite to create self-portraits, expressive cartoons, learn how to digitally paint personal landscapes, and more. Short form and long form animations will be explored.

Portfolio in Comics & Sequential Art: Session 2

Comics are a powerful storytelling medium immediately accessible to anyone. This class will train young artists to tell a visual story panel by panel. Referencing film, video, comic books and comic strips students will learn how to break down their ideas into the “keyframes” of their story. Emphasis will also be placed on the overall look of their comic pages within the Elements of Art including line quality, darks and lights, variety, emphasis, and perspective. This course uses traditional materials (bristol board paper, pencils, tracing paper, sable brushes, india ink.)

Become proficient in drawing and painting the basics of human anatomy, proportions, landscapes, still lifes, and more, while learning to draw from observation as well as to create original work that blends the observational with the imaginative. Learn what you need to get beyond basics and begin building a scholarship-worthy portfolio. This class will prepare you for more advanced classes such as Intermediate Portfolio and other specialty Portfolio classes.

Portfolio in 3D Art and Sculpture: Session 2

Students will create three-dimensional projects and learn about the many approaches to the art of sculpture, including assemblage, Plaster of Paris, carving‎, casting, modeling, nature sculpture, soft sculpture, and beyond! This class will cover several approaches to working in three dimensions, such as addition (combining different materials to create a form such as as assemblage, or collage of 3D materials), subtraction (removing material from a mass to create the form from an outside-In perspective), substitution (using a mold to shape materials), and manipulation (using malleable materials in ways that can be both additive and subtractive).
