The Art Effect’s PCSD Summer Art Program

Children will explore their artistic abilities and enhance their ELA (English Language Arts) and Math skills at this FREE summer program for Poughkeepsie Central School District Children going into grades 4 & 5. Students will engage in various art-making activities including digital media, visual arts, dance, and more while sharpening their literacy and Math this summer.

Exploring Drawing & Painting

Expand creativity through an immersive experience in drawing and painting. Young artists will learn to visually render original characters, stories, and artistic visions while learning techniques in colored pencils, pastels, ink, acrylics, watercolors, and more. Projects vary from color exploration and character creation to developing narratives.

Exploring Film & Media Art

This class will be primarily focused on instilling a love for digital art making and the moving image through personal expression and basic compositional principles, editing, and digital filmmaking. Students will also get an introduction to basic storytelling techniques digital/visual mediums and animation through digital painting, .gifs, and stop-motion techniques.

Exploring Media Art & Film

This class will be primarily focused on instilling a love for digital artmaking and the moving image. Students will be encouraged to see the art form as both fun and an outlet for personal expression. The class will introduce students to the basic storytelling techniques for digital/visual mediums and animation. This will include an introduction to digital painting, .gifs, and stop-motion techniques, as well as basic compositional principles, editing, and the use of sound in digital filmmaking.

Foundations in Drawing & Painting: Session 1

In this intermediate course for middle school age students, young artists will hone your skills in composition, value, texture and color through challenges and exercises that take your drawing and painting skills to the next level. Students will learn perspective, color, shape, line, form, and classical art techniques to produce pieces in charcoal, acrylics, and other materials. Students will leave this class with increased creative confidence and artwork you will be proud of.

Poughkeepsie – Week 2 – Dutchess Arts Camp

Creativity thrives as campers explore their artistic abilities, games and play. Enjoy individual and collaborative art making experiences based on an engaging weekly camp theme. The overall theme for Dutchess Arts Camp is A Fun Funky Motown Summer! Experienced and friendly staff support hands-on art experimentation with a wide variety of artistic mediums including painting, sculpture, collage, animation, performance, and more. The pieces created at camp will portray original narratives connecting to each campers’ interests and lives. Week 2 Theme: "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.

Finished artwork and performances will be displayed in a final showcase on Friday in an open exhibition setting for campers to share with family and friends.

Creativity thrives as campers explore their artistic abilities, games and play. Enjoy individual and collaborative art making experiences based on an engaging weekly camp theme. The overall theme for Dutchess Arts Camp is A Fun Funky Motown Summer! Experienced and friendly staff support hands-on art experimentation with a wide variety of artistic mediums including painting, sculpture, collage, animation, performance, and more. The pieces created at camp will portray original narratives connecting to each campers’ interests and lives. Week 3 Theme: "Respect" by Aretha Franklin.

Finished artwork and performances will be displayed in a final showcase on Friday in an open exhibition setting for campers to share with family and friends.
