The Art Effect

Illustration + Animation

In this 8 week animation class students will learn to animate and illustrate their own creatures and characters! Students will be guided through designing and building a stop-motion puppet, and animating on programs like Procreate while building creative confidence! Young artists will walk away with 2-3 projects and new fine art and animation skills!

Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

Realistic Drawing + Painting

Students will learn to use colored pencils, charcoal and acrylic paint to make unique and original artworks! Over the course of 8 weeks students will work from observation and imagination to make portraits, landscapes, still lifes and more! Learn important concepts like color theory, value, key/tone, and composition. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

This course prepares students for Portfolio Development I.

Portfolio Development I

This 8-week class is great for students who want to check all the college readiness boxes! Develop a unique, dynamic portfolio while expanding on your fundamental drawing and painting skills. Primarily working from observation, you will learn to balance life drawing with imaginative and photo based references. Students will create still life drawings and paintings, self portraits, live model portraits, and original works of art. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

This class will prepare students for advanced classes such as Portfolio Development II, Senior Project, live model courses, and college applications.

Exploring Drawing + Painting

In this 6 week art course students will learn to use a wide range of drawing and painting materials while learning to create artworks from observation and imagination! Students will make self portraits, silly still-life pieces, imagined landscapes and design their own forest creatures! This class is designed to inspire young artists and help build their skills and confidence!

Boost your portfolio in this 8-week drawing and painting class. Learn to gather and use reference images, create unique and engaging contemporary artworks, and hone crucial skills and techniques. Students will walk away with 5-6 portfolio ready pieces that will be sure to impress future employers and college representatives! Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

This is not an introductory course and an understanding of key concepts is required. This class will prepare students for advanced classes such as Senior Project, live model courses, and college applications.

Digital Art + Illustration

In this 8 week course students will learn to illustrate and animate using digital software like Adobe and Procreate, experiment with new animation techniques, learn how to develop a collection of original characters/worlds and tackle independent projects. This class is ideal for students who want to learn how to make compelling works of art for professional and college ready digital art portfolios. Students will leave this course with 4-5 projects, including an independent project applying their new skills to their own ideas. Introductory and advanced students are encouraged to take this class.Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

This class prepares students for advanced programs like Summer Art Institute and Senior Project.

Adventures in Materials

Learn and play with clay, collage, painting and drawing materials! In this 6 week course, students will gain the confidence to make original works of art with new and interesting materials. Students will walk away with 3-4 playful 2D and 3D art projects and introductory knowledge of color theory, mark making and a wide range of materials.

Drawing and Painting Human Figure

Students will learn how to draw and paint the human form using sight measuring, anatomical proportions, value, contour, and color! This 8-week course will start with the skeletal break down, gesture drawings, and short figure poses, and end with extended poses. Students will learn the techniques that will help them curate their own dynamic figure compositions and portfolio. Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

Take your student's love for painting to the next level in this introductory painting class!
