Portfolio Development Foundations

Develop a unique, dynamic portfolio while expanding on your fundamental drawing and painting skills. Primarily working from observation, you will learn to balance life drawing with imaginative and photo based references. This class will prepare students for advanced classes such as Intermediate Portfolio and other specialty Portfolio classes.

Students are required to bring a sketchbook.

Interviews at Trolley Barn: TBD upon registration

An advanced mentoring and portfolio development course designed to help earn top scholarship awards by developing a strong body of artwork. This class requires Portfolio Development or a session of the Summer Intensive as a prerequisite. Students will complete 10 pieces of artwork, as well as a visual research sketchbook that reflects a deeper understanding of learned concepts. A new, finished piece will be expected at every class for critique as well as the previous week’s piece after applying feedback. Once completed you will exhibit your work at a public gallery opening, be given letters of recommendation from the instructor, and receive 1-1 assistance in applying to the colleges of your choice.

 

​​Registrants will be contacted to schedule a meeting with the instructor prior to the first day of class to review the course commitments as well as the student’s current portfolio. Interview meetings are anticipated to occur on September 1.


Students will be required to develop 2 proposals for conceptual themes for their body of course work prior to the first day.

Students are required to bring a 9”x12” sketchbook.

This intermediate-level major focuses on beginning to develop a unique, dynamic portfolio while expanding on fundamental drawing and painting skills in both physical and digital spaces. Primarily working from observation and reference, students will receive instruction in composition, color theory, mark-making and narrative illustration through creating representational works using a variety of media. Projects will include still lifes, landscapes, self-portraits, and character-based works in a combination of digital art, drawing and painting. Best suited for high school students with introductory experience in fine art, or advanced middle school students.
*Submitting work samples is strongly encouraged but not required. Sharing recent work helps us get to know you, where you are, and how best to help you grow.

All students are asked to bring a bag lunch, a sketchbook (8inx10in preferred), a refillable water bottle, and sunblock in case class projects occur outside. 
Early drop-off available for an additional $25/day (no earlier than 8:30 am)
Late pick-up available for an additional $25/day (no later than 5:15 pm)

Using the tools of drawing, painting, and mixed media, students will experiment with conceptual works to create a body of work that focuses on solidifying a personal vision and voice. This class is ideal for artists looking to make the transition from mostly observation-based works into creating conceptual works with mostly imaginative elements, as well as those heading into senior year with college applications in mind.
*Submitting work samples is strongly encouraged but not required. Sharing recent work helps us get to know you, where you are, and how best to help you grow.
