Help #CreateTheArtEffect on May 5's #GivingTuesdayNow

On May 5, 2020, The Art Effect is launching the #CreateTheArtEffect campaign to raise $10,000 to amplify the creative voices of young people as they respond to our new reality. In this time of uncertainty, there’s a fundamental truth that gives us hope — that together we can do extraordinary things. Over the past few weeks and months, our world has been coming together to stand up, help out, give back, and heal. While we can no longer convene in person, The Art Effect has continued to serve our community and support young people in harnessing their creative voices for positive social change. Now, more than ever, young people’s voices must be heard. With skills, tools, and mentorship from The Art Effect, young people are creating artwork, films, and photographs that document, process, and inform their experience of the ever-changing Coronavirus crisis. Join The Art Effect for #GivingTuesdayNow as we kick off on our campaign to #CreateTheArtEffect which will run from May 5 through May 21. You can already start supporting the campaign by saying you’ll be attending the launch of the campaign on Facebook, by inviting friends to join you in following The Art Effect on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, and by bookmarking the campaign’s donation page: thearteffect.org/createthearteffect

Paid Working Opportunities for Youth in Dutchess County Through The Art Effect Programming

Virtual Screenwriting + Sculpture Bootcamp Offer Paid Work For Dutchess County Youth

The Art Effect is offering two 10-day intensive workforce development programs to Dutchess County youth May 11 – 22, 2020. Paid “Bootcamps” for Screenwriting and 3D Design will take place remotely via Zoom Monday through Friday from 3:00 – 5:00pm for youth ages 14-19 and will pay participating youth minimum wage for their time.

The Spark Studios: Online Screenwriting Intensive will focus on the fundamentals of writing screenplays across multiple genres of film and crafting compelling stories for the cinematic medium. Scripts will be drafted for potential production during the summer youth employment program.

The MADLab: Online 3D Design Bootcamp will concentrate on the principles of sculpture and working in three dimensions, as well as the role of public art in shaping communities. Youth will develop concept sketches for public art sculptures which will be created and installed by Art Effect youth later this year.

“As our world has shifted even more into a digital realm during this crisis, we continue to offer relevant and engaging opportunities for young people to gain skills and build connections with their peers. These two bootcamps offer incredible opportunities for youth to continue learning and building workforce skills,” says Nicole Fenichel-Hewitt, Executive Director of The Art Effect.

Both intensives will feature group meetings via Zoom on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm, and one-on-one “virtual lab” time Tuesdays and Thursdays. COVID-19 Updates

The Art Effect’s COVID-19 Safety Plan

(last updated 6/28/21)

To ensure safety for all of our students and their families, The Art Effect has worked hard to create programming environments which are safe, sanitary, and responsive to the shifting needs of these uncertain times.

In addition to securing the safety of our employees in accordance with directives issued by the NYS Governor’s Office, The Art Effect is providing the safest in-person programming experiences possible for the students and families we serve with the plan laid out below.

This is a living document. As new requirements and policies are put in place we will update our safety plan accordingly and provide due notice to the families of young artists enrolled in our programming.

Our daily routines  include:

  • Masks required when inside facilities. We ask that parents/guardians provide masks for their own children. A supply of masks are be on hand for extenuating circumstances.
    • We will work to maintain a distance of 6 ft apart when outdoors if students are engaged in unmasked activities.
  • Pre-entrance screening process includes:
    •  Temperature check with no-contact thermometer, followed by a health screening questionnaire for individuals with elevated temperatures.
    • If a child has a temperature higher than 100° F, the child will be asked not to enter and to go get tested and will not be allowed back until they have obtained negative test results.
    • If a student or students’ immediate family member (with whom they have daily contact) tests positive for COVID-19, we will immediately notify state and local health departments and cooperate with contact tracing efforts, including notification of potential contacts, such as workers or visitors who had close contact with the individual, while maintaining confidentiality required by state and federal law and regulations.
  • Everyone sanitizes or washes hands before and after each class/activity.
  • In cases where shared supplies cannot be avoided, all supplies are disinfected between uses.
  • All tools, supplies, surfaces, and seating gets deep-cleaned at the end of the day.
